Of Some Other’s Words

After reading some Nikky Finney

I read words

That marvel and ripple through me

Their wisdom heavily departed

Upon my inexperienced, but longing for

A knowing heart

The words, building stories

Course through me, and past me

I can know their author felt them

She didn’t have to expel them

They approached and exited gracefully

And they were grateful to be said

Finding their home on the pages

They made a bed,

Not laying to rest their origins

Of truth, but also of feeling

Rather satisfying each existence

In history

Because sometimes we must

Rewrite it.
