One Four Challenge – Wk 2 Mar 2015

Here’s my One Four Challenge – Wk 2 Mar 2015 of Dtps. Joy Sara Lady ‘Nancy’. This was one of many Phals/Doritaenopsis at the Grand Valley Orchid Society 2015 show at the end of January. This week I went pretty basic, not super creative on my part but a fun effect nonetheless. I made some usual improvements in Camera Raw: increase exposure, contrast, clarity and sharpening, decrease highlights.

From here I added the Plastic Wrap smart filter and played around with its settings a bit. Next I increased the vibrance, cropped it just a bit. Finally I added a duplicate layer and reduced the opacity to 17% just to enhance the color of the flowers and give them a little more umph, some of which was dulled by the plastic wrap filter.

I like the ‘toy-like’ effect it produces, thus my choice to leave the spike clip (the green thing off to the right) in the image. There are people who create clay sculptures/figures of orchids that are quite impressive so my image this week winds up being a bit of a nod towards that art. Plus I love the 3D effect this filter almost creates.

What do you think?

Such a wonderful bit of beautiful to share; it really brightens this cold dreary, early, spring day.

These are beautiful. this effect really did make them very textured and I like the clip! These are a really ice blend of yellow and deep pink. Like this combo.

Thank you! The texture intrigued me I just had to go with it. I’m really quite happy to have discovered it, it will be a nice tool to use in the future. I too love this coloration, a flower I wouldn’t mind in my own collection. 😉
